From Start to Finish
This is a short analysis of my work on the latest guitar
01
Priming & Sketching
After covering all the pockets and holes with masking tape, I add a prime layer to the guitar. The layer will generally be in the background color of my design. After that I create a grid and sketch the design using a pencil.
02
Block Coloring
Using acrylic markers to color in the design starting from the base colors and then getting to the finer details. As time-consuming as this step may be, it can be very meditative and relaxing.
03
Detailing
Detailing is all about adding texture to the design while paying attention to the different materials that make up the design. Detailing starts to give life to the design and helps me visualize how to enhance and refine the design further.
04
Shading & Highlighting
This is my favorite step. Adding shades and highlights really make a design pop and fully come to life. I love seeing how a few extra lines here and there can make a huge difference to how a design looks and feels.
05
Coating
Coating a guitar can be more tricky than it seems. It needs patience and can make or break the entire process. The more time it takes, the better the results are. I usually add 4 to 5 coats to my designs, giving each coat a full day to dry.
Here's a look of the back of the guitar after coating.
